Born in Mona Vale on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Velia Newman is an iconic Australian artist celebrated for her vibrant, thick palette-knife paintings. Growing up immersed in the colours and textures of the Australian coastline, bushland, and native flora, she developed a bold, expressive style that reflects the beauty and energy of her surroundings. Working primarily in acrylic, Velia’s richly textured works capture light, movement, and atmosphere in a way that is unmistakably her own. Her paintings have been exhibited alongside renowned Australian artists including David Boyd and Archibald Prize winner Jeff Dyer, and are represented in galleries across Australia, Asia, the UK, and the US
